Description
Léon Lhermitte was one of the most brilliant landscape designers of the 19th century. Although he never exhibited with the Impressionists, Van Gogh and Degas admired his pastels and charcoals, and Durand-Ruel exhibited them several times in his gallery. In this small pastel, the artist focuses on the rendering of colors and light at dawn or dusk. The large trees appear against the light of a pink-orange sky whose colors are reflected in small touches on the damp ground.
