Description
Charles-Nicolas Cochin’s few words describing Parrocel’s graphic technique apply perfectly to this drawing: “The drawings, generally not very finished, and therefore unattractive for those who have only a weak knowledge of the arts, are admired by people of taste for the fire, the spirit and the certainty that shine in them. […] They are drawn bluntly and even a little outrageous in this regard. If there are any incorrectnesses there, they are (if I dare to express myself that way) learned incorrectnesses produced by the ardor of sensibly marking the truths and beauties of nature, which we feel keenly and which we express with excess. »
