Horace Vernet

Description

Our Study of a Fisherman testifies Vernet’s special interest in his figures. Other black chalk character studies are known although the artist mainly uses pen and brown ink. Our figure has many affinities with the fisherman represented in the tapestry La Pêche au Carrelet (Manufacture Royale d’Aubusson, see gallery documentation), made from a cartoon by the artist.
