Description
The present Study of a Female Figure, shows numerous stylistic affinities with the graphic work of Francesco Polazzo. The fine parallel hatching, the round face, the treatment of the hair in large bunches, the curved last sections of the fingers seen here are all characteristic of the artist’s figure drawings. Compare with the Woman lying in a Landscape, Woman Lying down Near a Tree, and the Satyr Sitting, Seen from Behind. Drawn da sotto in su (seen from below), the figure in the present drawing is probably preparatory for a decorative ceiling painting. Without being directly related, she evokes the female figures painted by the artist in Sciences and Arts lead to Immortality and Nobility, Fortune and Wealth in the Palazzo Zen between 1735 and 1737.
