Description
The present drawing is a compositional study for a lost painting of Susanna and the Elders by Annibale Carracci. Susanna is seen here fending off the unwanted advances of one of the elders with her left hand. Her tunic has fallen, revealing her breasts to the elders and the viewer. The second elder, his head just visible behind Susanna, appears to be devouring the young woman with his eyes.
