Description
This double-sided sheet was recently attributed to Giorgio Picchi. The designs on the front and back can be linked to Picchi because of their relationship to the artist’s paintings. The Standing Man seen in Profile on the front is one of the first ideas of the figure of Christ in the fresco The Healing of Lepers painted by Picchi in the lodge of Gregory XIII at the Vatican in 1576-1577. On the reverse, the angel in the lower register appears as preparatory to the floating angel painted on the far right in the fresco The Crucifixion of Saint Peter painted by Picchi in 1601-1602 in the church of Saint Peter al Po in Cremona.
