Description
The drawing is characteristic of the imaginary projects carried out by Oppenord. The National Library of France keeps seven large sheets by the artist from the Robert de Cotte collection, in which Oppenord represented Roman ruins, palaces, ancient temples and imaginary fountains1. These sheets are executed in the same graphic technique and in a style similar to the present drawing. The shades of gray which range from the dark accents of the pen and ink to the lightness of the gray wash have an elegance specific to Oppenord’s art.
