Description

Recently rediscovered, the present drawing is characteristic of the artist’s graphic technique and style. Executed in pen and ink with a strong and vivid line, the composition shows an energy and ardor characteristic of other compositions by Falciatore. Among these examples, we can mention the Flying Putti of the Cooper Union Museum in New York, Cain and Abel of the National Museum of San Martino, Naples, and Tereus Chasing Procne and Philomela, which was recently on the art market. The subject of our drawing is depicted as if seen from below, indicating that it was likely preparatory for a painting on a ceiling or a high placement on a wall.

We thank Laurie Marty de Cambiaire for kindly providing the attribution of this drawing.
