Francesco Casanova
London 1727 – 1803 Vienne
A Battle
size: 320 x 476 mm
technique: Watercolor and bodycolor
provenance: Private collection, France
Description
Our battle scene is a recovery of a painting by Casanova which was formerly in the collection of Prince de Conti and which is now kept at the Louvre Museum. The artist draws the magnificent overturned white horse identically, slightly varies the poses of the three riders in the center of the composition, and modifies the rest of the battle and the landscape. The pose of the overturned horse is also found in two drawings kept at the Albertina in Vienna.
