Cholet 1703 – Paris 1739
With François Boucher, Charles-Joseph Natoire and Carle Vanloo, Pierre-Charles Trémolières is known to have been one of the most important history painters of the generation of artists born around the year 1700. Unfortunately, Trémolières died in 1739, four years after his studies in Italy and shortly after his reception at the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in 1737 with his painting Odysseus saved from shipwreck by Minerva today at the Musée Fabre in Montpellier, cutting short his already glorious career. Consequently, Trémolières' production, in the graphic and pictorial domains, remains rare.
