Paris 1803 - 1869 Paris
Paul Huet was a French painter and lithographer, known for his role in the Romantic movement. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in the studio of Pierre Guérin and Antoine-Jean Gros. He was influenced by Eugène Delacroix but also by the English watercolourists such as Constable and Bonington who was his friend. Huet mainly specialised in landscapes where he was able to capture light and atmosphere with great intensity. His works are often marked by a dramatic representation of nature, ranging from mysterious forests to tumultuous maritime scenes. His way of sublimating the changing atmospheres of nature makes him the figurehead of the romantic landscape. He received the Legion of Honor in 1841 and was elected a member of the Academy of Fine Arts in 1851.
