Rome 1687 - 1772 Rome
An 18th century Roman painter, Nicolò Ricciolini maintained throughout his career a loyalty to the art of the Baroque as opposed to the emerging neoclassical style. Trained under his father Michelangelo Ricciolini who was himself influenced by Carlo Maratta, Nicolò carried out important commissions for Roman churches. Among other, he produced the cartoons for the mosaics of the dome of the chapel of San Michele of Saint Peter in Rome and the altarpiece The Virgin appearing to Saint Bernard for the church of Santissomo Nome dei Maria.
