Girolamo Troppa

Rochetta Sabina 1630 – after 1710 Rome

Girolamo Troppa was a well-known painter of religious subjects in Rome in the seventeenth century. He mainly painted easel paintings, but is also known to have executed decorations for the Oratory of Santa Marta and the frescoes for Santa Agata in Trastevere. In his youth, Girolamo Troppa was probably an emulator of Carlo Maratta. He also must have seen the work of the Carracci. Under the influence of Pier Francesco Mola and Salvator Rosa, his style became more romantic. It is documented that Girolamo Troppa obtained the title of Cavaliere.
