Filippo Falciatore

Documented in Naples around 1728 – 1768

Filippo Falciatore was a rococo painter active in Naples in the eighteenth century. He first trained with Paolo de Matteis, and subsequently finished his apprenticeship with Domenico Antonio Vaccaro, whose work he admired. Like Vaccaro, Filippo Falciatore was a multi-talented artist. He created large decorations in fresco, and designed and decorated stucco and furniture. In the latter category he made the sedan chair of Queen Marie-Amélie de Saxe which was unanimously celebrated. Falciatore also painted genre scenes with multiple characters; and made altar paintings. Moving away from the more solemn compositions of Solimena, Filippo Falciatore imposed a luminous, airy, and dynamic decorative style.
