Haarlem 1631 – 1664 Haarlem
Cornelis Bega was one of the most talented painters, draftsmen and printmakers active in Haarlem in the 17th century. He trained with Adriaen van Ostade then traveled to Germany, Switzerland, France and Italy around the years 1652-1653. Like his master, Bega specialized in depicting genre scenes from popular life, multiplying scenes from taverns and domestic interiors. He became a member of the Guild of Saint Luke in Haarlem in 1654.
